According to media reports, The Local Government Election Amendment Bill is expected to be presented in parliament on the 6th of October 2010.
With this is mind the Women and Media Collective together with 5 other Women's organisations in the country (Mothers and Daughters of Lanka, Viluthu, Women's Resource center, Women's Development Center and the Uwa Wellassa Farmer Women's Organisation) held a press briefing at Hotel Renuka on the 27th of September 2010.
The women's organisations called all political parties to guarantee that the proposed Local Authorities Elections (Amendment) Bill provide binding measures to ensure that women receive nominations for 1/3 of Wards and make up 50% of the PR lists.
